Functional Manual Therapy®

Gradus Physical Therapy was established as a collaborative effort to provide exceptional, patient-centered care using the principles of Functional Manual Therapy® (FMT). Developed by Gregg and Vicky Johnson, founders of the Institute of Physical Art (IPA), FMT is a revolutionary evaluation and treatment approach that addresses the body as an interconnected system.

Rooted in a holistic perspective, we understand that pain and movement dysfunction are often driven by factors far from the site of discomfort. FMT’s guiding principle is to uncover the true source of limitations or pain by examining the body through a fully integrated lens. This approach empowers patients to achieve their full potential and move beyond symptom management to long-term functional improvement.

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS), developed by Pavel Kolar at the Prague School of Rehabilitation, focuses on restoring optimal movement by retraining the nervous system and improving core stabilization. Drawing from developmental kinesiology, DNS re-establishes natural movement patterns seen in infants, emphasizing core stability through proper intra-abdominal pressure, postural alignment, and integrated breathing mechanics.

By using guided exercises based on developmental positions (e.g., crawling or squatting), DNS enhances neuromuscular control, making it effective for rehabilitating injuries, optimizing athletic performance, and preventing future dysfunctions. Its holistic approach targets the root causes of movement issues, promoting long-term stability and efficiency.
